In a nutshell, Sargam is a contemporary band that draws inspiration from the traditions of Carnatic music and innovates in modern medleys.
“Sargam” was born as a result of the convergence of like minded musicians who wish to portray Carnatic music in a wholly different perspective.
We are a group of passionate musicians who love to experiment and explore. Most of our compositions involve an amalgamation of a various genres with strong roots in Indian classical music.
An eight piece band consisting of 4 female vocalists, a beatboxer, a percussionist, a keyboardist and a violinist.
The Band Members:
Bhargavi Manogna is a Ist year B.com Student at MOP Vaishnav College for Women, Chennai. She is trained in carnatic vocal under Prof. D Pashupathi ,her mother Gnanaprasuna and currently from Sugandha Kalamegham. She is a regular performer for Unjal seva on SVBC channel and performs for concerts in and around chennai. She has participated and secured prizes in competitions conducted by various sabhas.
Shreemathi Jagan is a Ist year Engineering Student at SRM, Ramapuram . She is well trained in carnatic music since childhood from maestros Udupi Gopalakrishnan and Abhishek Raghuram, who are the disciples of Sir P.S Narayanaswamy. She has learnt Carnatic music for 14yrs . She has participated in many music competitions and has secured various prizes.
Sivaranjini Chandramouli is a class 11 student of The Hindu Senior Secondary School, who is trained in carnatic music by maestro C.R Vaidhyanadhan. She has been learning carnatic for 11 years. She is the finalist and has been in the top 12 in prestigious reality shows like Sun Singer and Super Singer respectively. She has emerged winner in many district, state and national level competitions and other competitions conducted by various sabhas.
Akshaya Balaji is a Ist year Electronic Media student at MOP Vaishnave College and hails from a music family (daughter of Mridangam vidwan Nellai A. Balaji). She is trained in Carnatic music and sampradaya bhajan by Smt. Padma Narayanan and J.B Keerthana Bharathwaj. She has learnt Carnatic music for 12 years. She has participated in many carnatic music & bhajan competitions and has secured various prizes.
Akshara S is a first year B.Com student and has performed in many music programmes. She is being trained classical music under Sri. Sajeev Perumbavoor .She has got appreciations and won prizes in beatboxing events. She was inspired into beatboxing during her schooling. She also sang for a movie called Vikadakavi when she was 8 years old.
Aditya is a versatile percussionist and has learnt the mridangam under the tutelage of Shri. Trivandrum R. Vaidhyanathan for 12 years.A passionate musician who has participated and won in numerous interschool and inter-college cultural events. Currently, also the percussionist for the band Motta maadi music.
Siddharth Ajith is a class 11 student of The Hindu Senior Secondary School, who has been learning keyboard since childhood from maestro Harishankar. He is also a pianist and has been trained in both classical and western genres. He is a child actor and has enacted in various films of the Tamil and Malayalam industries. He is well-known for the Malayalam film “Kuttikalundu Sookshikkuka”. He has participated in many music competitions and won various prizes.
Venkatasundaram is a class 11 student of The Hindu Senior Secondary School, who is a classical violinist as well as a keyboardist and has been learning violin since childhood from maestro Chithoor Vijayaraghavan. He performs for classical concerts in and around Chennai. He has participated in many carnatic music & bhajan competitions and has secured various prizes.
